Renée O’Leary obtained her doctorate in the Social Dimensions of Health, University of Victoria Canada in 2018; her dissertation examined e-cigarette policy development, youth use, and smoking cessation. Her monograph “Clearing the Air: A systematic review of the evidence on the harms and benefits of e-cigarettes and vapour devices” (2017) was funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and was the basis for a consensus policy statement by the British Columbia Provincial Health Officer, the Director of the Centre for Disease Control, and the Island Health Medical Officer. Her 2023 publication, “Clinical testing of the cardiovascular effects of e-cigarette substitution for smoking: A living systematic review” analyzed 25 studies and was an investigator-initiated study funded in part by the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World. She is a specialist in evidence synthesis methodologies and has authored or co-authored 14 published reviews.
